On November 2nd, volunteers from Agile Sourcing Group joined volunteers from California Baptist University’s Christian Club to help paint a mobile home in Riverside for a homeowner through Habitat for Humanity’s “A Brush with Kindness” program. The homeowner, Jorge, did not have the financial means or the physical strength to paint his home. With the help of 32 volunteers and a few hours of hard work, Habitat for Humanity Riverside was able to help make this family’s home look brand new.
Volunteers laughed and enjoyed themselves as they tirelessly painted in the sun. For many, it was their first time volunteering. When asked whether they were enjoying their volunteer experience so far, one first time volunteer said, “I haven’t felt this relaxed in months. I am so glad I came out. Rewarding, therapeutic, and definitely worth waking up early in the morning to help.” The volunteers were emotionally invested in ensuring Jorge’s home looked better than ever.
Many asked whether they could come back to help Jorge and his family some more, showing how eager the volunteers were to go above and beyond what was expected of them. Six gallons of paint later, the house was nearing completion and the finishing touches were added by a few volunteers.
When everything was finished and all of the supplies were put away the volunteers hi-fived one another, walked around the house and admired their hard work. One volunteer asked while laughing, “Can I come help out next weekend? I’m getting pretty good at this!” You sure can!
