On Friday June 30th, we were joined in Moreno Valley by 21 students and faculty from the University of California, Riverside School of Business. For this project we joined forces with the Mobile Home Repair Program to paint the home of Guadalupe and her family. Guadalupe has had several repairs done on her home including replacement of her water heater, extensive roof repairs, repairs to her furnace, and her electrical system. She’s even changed out some of the damaged trim on the outside of the home. Painting the home was the last piece of the puzzle for her.
The morning began with all of the volunteers signing in, preparing the work site, listening to a safety presentation, and quickly getting to work. Because the original color of the home was a deep red, it took many coats to completely cover it. Despite these obstacles, the volunteers were determined to make the home beautiful for Guadalupe. In just two and a half hours, the home was finished and Guadalupe was overjoyed by all of the work the volunteers had done.
The volunteers were in disbelief at how beautiful the home looked and the short amount of time time it took for such a simple act to make such an immense difference for Guadalupe and her family. Now Guadalupe’s home is secure and comfortable, and she can finally relax knowing that her children have a safe place to live. So thank you University of California, Riverside students and faculty for all of your help on Guadalupe’s home. We look forward to having you volunteer with us again.
