Jack and Jill of America, Inc. has adopted the Hicks family, providing funding for the home, volunteers, and in kind donations to support  as they go through the process of purchasing a home through Habitat for Humanity Riverside’s upcoming CalVet REN Community in Jurupa Valley. In addition to purchasing a safe and affordable home, the Hicks family will have the opportunity to attend supportive services and classes that will help transition them into homeownership and civilian life.

On July 26th during Jack and Jill of America’s National Convention in Palm Desert, the organization held a symbolic groundbreaking for the family and invited Monique and son, Jordan, to speak. Monique is very familiar with the work of Habitat because her mother’s home had been painted by Habitat.  Monique spoke about how excited she is to have the opportunity to own a home. Before discovering the program, Monique and her partner Rodney, who is currently serving overseas, didn’t know that there was a natural transition for them to go from renting to owning their own home. She spoke about being appreciative not just because of the work Habitat is doing to help her family, but because of the veteran program and the need for it in the community.

At only 4 years old, Jordan stole the show!

Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is a membership organization of mothers dedicated to nurturing future African American leaders by strengthening children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving, and civic duty. The Jack and Jill of America Foundation, Inc., has distributed millions of dollars to support programs that build leadership characteristics in youth, empower young people to make the right life choices, and help our children reach their full potential.
