It was a different type of tee time for the volunteers from the Southern California Professional Golf Association (SCPGA) office based in Ontario. It was an afternoon of volunteering to help Janice, a senior disabled homeowner who lives in Green River Village. Recently, the park management requested that the home be repainted and repairs for skirting, trim and side steps be completed to make the home safer for the resident. The home had been touched up years ago but the paint did not match and several rainstorms had warped and damaged some of the trim and skirting of the home. Most of the repairs were completed before the paint project with the SCPGA volunteers. The steps and window trim are scheduled to be completed later this month.
Right at One O’clock all the volunteers showed up ready to help Janice. Some of them even showed up in golf attire but it was a group decision to leave the spikes at home. We could quickly see that this was going to be an interesting round of volunteering for all of us. If you have ever played golf then you will understand the banter between the volunteers once they were given sides of the home to paint. Of course it was a friendly competition to see whose side came out the best. Volunteer Rob and his team sped through their section first and quickly moved on to help with the other sides. Amy practically painted the drive way side wall by herself with the help of an extension pole. Once the rest of the group saw how quick it went, they grabbed poles too. Brianna was put on quality control and she did a great job at it!
Janice was beyond amazed and delighted that her home was getting a makeover that she brought cookies out for the group to enjoy. Her home was completed just before 4:30pm and Janice gladly took a photo with the group. Before leaving, all the volunteers caravanned past Janice’s beautifully painted home to appreciate all their hard work.
SCPGA volunteers, thank you for your help, it was definitely a fun Thursday afternoon for all!
