Its 8:00 am on Saturday, April 2, the morning dew is settling in and the California sun is slowly rising over the east horizon. Joe and Margaret, mobile home owners living at the King Arthur Mobile Home Park in Riverside, have been up early in the morning eagerly anticipating the painting of their home. They live on a fixed income and had been unable to finance the much needed paint job for their home.
One by one, volunteers from International Association of Workforce Professionals (IAWP) and UCR’s National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) arrived to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity Riverside’s home preservation program. Once volunteers signed in, turned in their waivers, and unloaded the supplies, the Project Coordinator gave a talk about safety and how to use the painting tools. Then, volunteers broke into teams! Some volunteers began work on the home’s trim while others worked on side walls and larger segments of the home.
