On Saturday, November 16th Habitat for Humanity Riverside and the City of Riverside broke ground for three Energy Star rated efficient homes that will be completed in the summer of 2014. The two prequalified families, The Fergusons and The Mobleys, joined the celebration. The Fergusons, Andrew and Jacquie, have a daughter, Karis, and a son, Titus, and are expecting a new baby next year. The Mobley Family, Arraceion and LaVon, have three daughters, Taylor, Lauren and Camille. The children were all excited to finally be meeting their soon to be neighbors. Both families had plenty of support from family and members of their church.
Our guest speakers, including Robert Starr of the Toro Company, Councilman Steve Adams, CAP Riverside’s Executive Director Maria Juarez, and City of Riverside’s Deputy Director of Community Development Emilio Ramirez, all welcomed the families to the neighborhood.
Councilman Paul Davis led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance after the presentation of the colors.
Reverend Erin Thomas of Calvary Riverside performed the ground blessing followed by the introduction of our partner families.
After the program the families and dignitaries ceremoniously broke ground at the site of the future homes and enjoyed some tasty cookies and cupcakes and refreshments provided by the members of Soroptimist International of Riverside.
