Clarinda Nellum and Demond Vassar, with their three children, were overjoyed to receive the keys to their newly rehabilitated home in the City of Jurupa Valley today.

The family of five previously lived in a one bedroom duplex with broken windows that were painted shut and a ceiling that was peeling. The internet provider refused to install internet in the home because of asbestos. The two older children, Juwan, age 14, and Tierra, age 12, used to share the  only bedroom while the parents slept on the couches in the living room with their youngest daughter, Gaia, age 2.

Clarinda works at Heritage Container (warehouse) in Jurupa Valley and has done so for the past ten years. She purchased this 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom rehabilitated home and now lives in the same city that she is working in. She has completed over 250 hours  of sweat equity. Along with that she successfully reached her goal with Community Action Partnership’s Individual Development Account, a program that matches every dollar saved by four dollars.

While daughter Gaia was all smiles and wanted to pose with the keys to her family’s new home, mom Clarinda remarked, “I love my new kitchen!” This family of five is now a proud homeowner in the City of Jurupa Valley!
