Ramona High School, one of our long time Habitat Chapters, came out to spend a Saturday morning with us in order to help Victor, a senior citizen, at Riverside Country Club Mobile Home Park.

The Riverside Country Club MHP notified us to see if we could help Victor out with his home. Before we got there, the steps and railing on Victor’s house were deteriorating causing a major safety concern. Victor is on a fixed income so it was hard for him to afford repairing his steps. Luckily, we were able to build new steps for him and freshen up his home with some new color.

The Ramona High School Habitat Chapter has been known to do a tremendous amount of work in raising funds and being active partners with Habitat for Humanity, Riverside’s goal in helping out the Inland Empire community. Whether it be picking up a couple of paint brushes or hosting a Lap-A-Thon to raise funds, Ramona HS has been such a great partner!

This time around, Ramona High School started fresh with all new sets of volunteers ranging from freshman to seniors. Many of the long time members graduated this past June, so it was so great to see fresh faces up and ready to help out one of their neighbors in the community. Christine Martin, Ramona’s Habitat Chapter advisor mentioned, “This park is so close to Ramona HS so it was a lot easier getting here.”

Although 7:30am was a bit early for a Saturday morning, the students all looked eager to get started. Daniel Anchondo, Project Coordinator for A Brush with Kindess, made sure all the students knew all the safety rules and some background information on what Habitat for Humanity, Riverside’s A Brush with Kindess program is all about. Since most of the students were new at painting, Daniel had to make sure everyone was educated on all the safety precautions. After the safety talk, the students were split up into four groups in order to tackle all four sides of the home. The students were enthusiastic to paint and eager to learn new techniques on how to paint properly.

For Victor’s house, the newly built steps were still bare so the students were able to tackle that as well in order to match the home. Good thing there were 19 of them, because they finished the home in no time, even with the added steps.
