Fall was definitely in the air on Thursday morning when a group from Fresh and Easy Distribution Center arrived to help paint Anne’s home who lives in Il Sorrento Mobile Home Park located in Moreno Valley. There was a chill in the air and a warning of drizzle was in the forecast but this did not stop the crew from rolling up their sleeves to help paint Anne’s home.  Anne is disabled and living her senior years on a fixed income. She gets around with a cane and has a ramp for easy access. She contacted Habitat for Humanity Riverside to help her paint and fix up her home. The sides of Anne’s home were exposed and were badly water stained, faded, and some areas had very little paint.

The crew of 6 were determined to get the home painted, so  they all started at the front and worked their way towards the back of the house. The clouds were moving in just as the weather report had predicted.  Gregg one of our committed Habitat volunteers took care of the high front trim in an effort to beat the possible morning drizzle.  He got about halfway when the drizzle started, fortunately the area he had just finished painting had dried before the light rain began. After a few minutes of waiting for the light rain to subside, Gregg started again. While he was taking care of the trim, the Fresh n Easy crew of Heidi, Elena, Roberto and Lionel continued painting the walls using large rollers to take care of the horizontals planks of the home.  Once the front was done the crew moved on to the other sides of the home.

By the time the crew was done with the front, the sun had come out and it started getting nice and warm. So Heidi put on a wide brimmed landscaping hat but not before she had already gotten a little red from the heat. We did however make sure she got some Gatorade to cool down and Anne’s homemade cookies to keep her going. Anne’s yard, like most mobile home yards had rock garden  side yards. But on one side of her home she had big rocks instead of pebbles , which made it tricky to set ladders and even walk. So the crew was extra careful on this side.  All of the crew stayed a little longer to finish all of the home. Anne loved the new look of her home.  She thanked the crew and made sure they took home any extra drinks and cookies as a token of her appreciation.
