You’ve bought a house, so now what? First time home buyers and Habitat families are invited to attend a series of four workshops to learn about the many aspects of home ownership. Habitat Riverside invites key community organizers to present to Habitat home owners and help them understand that home ownership is so much more than a mortgage payment.
On September 21st, three motivating speakers discussed the importance of getting involved in the community. Erin Snyder from the Northside Improvement Agency (Riverside Neighborhood Partnership) showed families how easy it was to organize your neighbors and keep the neighborhood interested in community affairs (Erin gave us the hint that if you have food, they will come). Deputy Cryder and Citizen on Patrol Warrick from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at the Jurupa Station talked about neighborhood safety and the importance of being prepared. They even set up a scenario that proved being a good witness is harder than it looks. Councilmember Brad Hancock stepped in to welcome each new resident in Jurupa Valley and to talk about the resources their new city has to offer families.
All in all, this Post Purchase workshop was a success. Thanks to the presenters who were interesting which caused the families were enthusiastic. Check out some pictures from the event here:
