Irianna is a single mom with 3 small children under the age of 5. Her mother helped her purchase the home; however, now does not have any income at this time to help her daughter and grandchildren. Irianna’s home had stains on walls from previous owners who neglected their home. The home even had egg stains from someone who threw eggs at the front entrance. Irianna’s home surely needed a new fresh look. She applied for Habitat for Humanity Riverside’s program A Brush With Kindness and qualified for a paint day.
On a sunny Wednesday morning, volunteers from Rancho Community Church in Temecula came out to the city of Moreno Valley to bless Irianna and her family with paint on their home. Due to the very sunny weather and temperatures reaching in the high 90s, the volunteers went straight to work right after the safety briefing and devotional prayer. We were also thankful for one of the volunteers from the church who owns a painting business and brought along his employees, all professional painters.
The fades and stained off white color of the home was now being painted over by a lite grey color with bluish accents and the trim color a darker grey. The color shined wonderfully as the volunteers painted Irianna’s home’s exterior walls. All of the volunteers new each other which helped the paint day go smoothly. They were all glad to lend a hand to each other and all behaved maturely and peacefully.
Around the same time the temperature raised in the high 90s the home was painted. The volunteers brought the ladders back to the truck, folded the tarps, gathered up the trash and were ready for a photo opportunity with Irianna. We called out Irianna and her children and she and the volunteers formed a group in front of her home for a photo. Everyone had smiles on their faces as they all looked back and the home and gazed upon their work. Another home painted for a deserving family.
