Through a mixture of tears and smiles, Magdalena Dominguez and her two daughters Tamara and Jocelyn received the keys to their Habitat home. On the joyous day, their Habitat neighbors Yvonne and her daughters came to tour the house and welcome the Dominguez family to their new neighborhood.
Magdalena is a single mother working at the fellow non-profit Family Services Association. Tamara recently earned her AA at RCC and is a shift manager at a local McDonalds while Jocelyn is taking prerequisites to enter the Nursing program at RCC.
The family of 3 lived in a 2 bedroom, small (the washer is next to the stove) single family home. Most of the windows in the house have dry rot in the frame and are inoperable. The bathroom window has a mold infestation and the eaves that run along the front and sides of the house are rotted. The landlord has been notified and acknowledges these issues on a continuous basis since the moved in 2 years ago, but there has been no action. Magdalena Dominguez purchased a rehabilitated, 4 bedroom/2 bathroom Habitat home in the City of Jurupa Valley; the city the family has lived in for the past 25 years.
