This year, the women of Bank of America and Discovery Church joined us for Habitat for Humanity’s National Women Build week on Saturday, May 8th, the day before Mother’s Day. Both groups are familiar with the eight home project at Roberts Way, Bank of America is a major sponsor and both groups were involved in framing and raising the walls. The houses have progresses drastically since these groups last worked on these homes. Now, they are able to see the fruits of their labor and get a first-hand look at the homes.
Kathy Michalak, Habitat for Humanity Riverside’s Executive Director, began our volunteer day by explaining the purpose of the National Women Build Week. Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the United States participates in the Women Build week, focusing on challenging women to participate in volunteering with building or constructing homes in an effort to eliminate poverty housing. For this year’s event, volunteers helped put the finishing touches on the home at Roberts Way for our future homeowners to move-in.
Because of recent rains, the site was muddy and wet. Volunteers kept their spirits high as they monuvered through the mud, in between the 8 homes. They had to be cautious when walking, thankfully, this time no one lost their shoe… it has happened before!
Thank you so much for all your help, Discovery Church and Bank of America. We hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day!
