Corona Presbyterian Church members and a crew of regular Habitat volunteers worked together this Saturday to paint George’s home, an almost retired gentleman who owns a mobile home in Countrywood Estates in Corona. George works for the Lake Elsinore School District but with some of the recent cutbacks in education, he is not able to afford to have his home painted and there were some pretty bad areas that needed attention.
The group showed up on time and Pastor Bill shared the morning devotion to get everyone in the right frame of mind. Majority of the crew were repeat volunteers so they knew the drill and got right to work. The back of the home and the shed needed scraping and caulking, so several volunteers eagerly tackled those areas. The rest of the group worked in unison to paint the rest of the unit.
Typically our A Brush with Kindness projects combines fun and work at the same time and this Saturday was no exception. It seemed like the stars aligned and the repair work and painting moved right along as planned. It never seems to fail that everyone ends up at the front of the home at the end of the day waiting for a couple of brave guys on ladders doing the really high spots, typically at the hottest part of the day! Jerry and Pastor Bill took care of this ladder work with several folks on the ground acting as ladder stabilizers just to be safe. These projects are fun, but safety is always top of mind!
The volunteers made great time and finished the home just after 12pm. A lot of them had to leave to take care of their own weekend projects so we got the group picture and everyone was off to enjoy the rest of their weekend.
George had some commitments with his mom, so when he returned home and saw his newly painted home he was amazed and grateful for the volunteers giving up their Saturday and pushing aside their own weekend projects to work on his.
Thank you volunteers for your time and hands.
