This Friday, Habitat, along with some partner families, teamed up with volunteers from Simpson Strong-Tie to paint a mobile home. This group of ten was about half the size of our usual volunteer groups but we managed to finish in the same amount of time nonetheless. This was facilitated by the use of a paint sprayer, which Habitat staff were recently trained to use, so while the volunteers painted the sides and back of the mobile home, Habitat staff sprayed the front of the mobile home and both awnings.
The Simpson Strong-Tie group of seven were great; six were from finance and one from IT. Not knowing much about their company, I researched it after painting and was impressed by their company’s innovation in the industry. For those unfamiliar with them, Simpson Strong-Tie creates structural products, such as flange hangars, anchor systems, shear walls, and epoxies. As I also work on new build projects, I realize that I see and utilize their products all the time. Since both Simpson and Habitat’s mission is to create secure, lasting structures for people to enjoy, live and prosper, we hope to see these volunteers and more of the Simpson Strong-Tie family volunteering with us in the future.
We also had representatives from two partner families working on purchasing a house through our Habitat Program at the 8-home development in Moreno Valley. These families work side by side through the process, so that by the time they are moving into their homes (which will be in June for these families), they will have already established a foundation for long friendships and a close-knit community. We greatly appreciate everyone’s help in completing this paint day, and no one was happier than the homeowner with the transformation. Let’s keep it going!
