We were fortunate to have Chino Hills High School Baseball Team join us this past weekend for a yard clean-up, A Brush with Kindness work day. This job was at a mobile home park in Corona for a needy senior citizen who was having trouble getting around her property. Over two tons of rocks were delivered to the site and the Huskies team helped us spread the rocks across her entire lot. The volunteer group consisted of freshman, junior varsity, and varsity players; we were also joined by Coach Sanchez and some of the player’s parents.
We started working at 8 a.m. After eating donuts, which the team graciously brought for everyone, we handed out the shovels, rakes, and wheelbarrows, and got to work. We broke the team into three groups: the shovelers, the wheelbarrowers, and the spreaders. The rocks started out as a 5-foot tall mountain and was steadily leveled before noon. The homeowner was ecstatic and shocked by the transformation we were able to accomplish in just a few short hours. Her yard was much improved by the rocks and pavers that we added and fixed. Habitat for Humanity Riverside greatly appreciates the Huskies for helping us out, and excited that they’ve already promised to join us again for another volunteer work day.
